Teen suffers bullet wound in northern Minnesota hunting mishap


A 16-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound to the foot while loading hunting gear into a vehicle Tuesday in rural Pequot Lakes.

The teen was being transported by private vehicle to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reported. Officers and North Memorial Ambulance intercepted the vehicle and provided assistance.

An investigation found the incident happened when a rifle accidentally discharged as hunting gear was being loaded into a vehicle.

The girl was later transported to St. Cloud Hospital via North Memorial Air Care for non-life-threatening injuries.
