Police say a girl has died following a two-vehicle crash in the area of northeast Columbus Saturday evening.
Detectives say the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed Saturday going southbound on Cleveland Avenue near East 12th Avenue. The driver tried to avoid another vehicle and lost control off the right side of the road hitting a pole and flipped the SUV upside down, landing on its top.
Witnesses told police at least one child was ejected from the vehicle.
According to Columbus Police, a total of five children was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. A 7-year-old girl passed away at approximately 7:15 p.m. The driver was taken to Grant Medical Center.
Police have not released the names of the driver or the children at this time.
Investigators believe speed and alcohol are factors in the result of this crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
