“The support the Appalachian Regional Commission provides for economic and community development projects throughout West Virginia is vitally important,” Senator Manchin said. “This funding will improve critical infrastructure in Spencer and support maintenance projects for the state forests we all cherish. These are important investments in our state and I will continue to advocate for ARC.”
The City of Spencer will receive $800,000 for wastewater system improvements. The City of Spencer will make critical repairs to its wastewater plant and collection system, bringing the system into compliance with current quality standards. In addition to ARC funds, local sources will provide $704,000 bringing the total project funding to $1,504,000.
“The Appalachian Regional Commission is a vital partner in efforts to improve health and economic opportunity in West Virginia,” Senator Capito said. “Communities such as Spencer are the reason I continue to be a strong advocate for the ARC, and I was happy to have lent my support to their application. I am excited to see the positive effects this funding will have both in Spencer and across West Virginia.”
The West Virginia Division of Forestry (WV DOF) will receive $92,820 for timber and forest products inventory of six West Virginia state forests. The project will develop the essential component of a long-term plan for sustainable forest management for the six forests. In addition to the ARC funds, the total project costs $182,000 includes $89,180 from the West Virginia Department of Commerce.
