CLEVELAND, Ohio — Eighteen schools in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District will be closed Tuesday because of concerns about the extreme heat.
The schools closed are Ben Franklin, Charles Eliot, Charles Mooney, Collinwood, East Clark, Facing History New Tech, Garrett Morgan, Iowa Maple, Louis Agassiz, Michael R. White, New Tech West, Newton D. Baker, O.H. Perry, Sunbeam, Tremont, Valley View Boys Leadership, Academy, Whitney Young and Willow.
WKYC also reports that Buckeye Local Ashtabula, East Preparatory Academy, Fairview Park City Schools, Franklin Elementary, Gorrell Elementary, Metro Catholic Parish Elem, Middlebury Academy, St Adalbert-Cleveland, St Ignatius of Antioch, St John Lutheran-Cleveland, St Thomas Aquinas, and Whittier Elementary are also closed today.
Tuesday’s forecast is for temperatures in the 90s with a heat index approaching 100 degrees.
The district dismissed five schools early on Monday because of the heat: Valley View Boys Leadership, Iowa Maple, Newton D. Baker, Sunbeam and Tremont.
Monday’s high in Cleveland was 91 degrees.
Cleveland isn’t the only school district reacting to the heat. WCMH Channel 4 reports that Columbus City Schools will dismiss early on Tuesday, while Massillon City Schools is closing three elementary schools.
