A man is facing an animal cruelty charge after a video reportedly shows him beating his pit bull with a thick rope.
“It’s a shame a crime like this doesn’t fit the felony statute,” Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones says in a post on Facebook. “People like this deserve far worse punishments for their abusive actions. It takes a real weak person to abuse a defenseless animal and it disgusts anyone who is a normal human being.”
Investigators say the video shows Kristopher Johnson, 21, of Hamilton, beating the dog, which can be heard yelping. The video is below, but it might be disturbing for some viewers.
Johnson is scheduled to appear in court Thursday on the misdemeanor charge, cincinnati.com reports.
The dog, named Zeus, has been removed from the home by dog wardens.
