CLEVELAND, Ohio– A 30-year-old woman was shot to death Wednesday afternoon in the city’s Mount Pleasant neighborhood.
The shooting happened about 4 p.m. on East 121st Street and Luke Avenue, north of Kinsman Avenue, police said.
The woman was shot multiple times and died after an ambulance took her to University Hospitals, according to police.
Police notified the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, who responded to the scene.
Cleveland police are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
It’s the city’s 99th homicide of 2018.
On Sept. 26, 2017, there were 87, and the city ended up with 130.
If Cleveland passes 100 homicides, it will be the sixth year in a row, marking the first time since the 1990s that the city has seen a stretch of years of more than 100 homicides, according to Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner data.
The city had 100 homicides or more in every year from 1964 to 1996. The city’s population was 500,049 in 1996, compared to an estimated 385,525, according to U.S. Census data.
